Digital Advancements at Jupiter

We have been granted digital development funding from Amb:IT:on Scotland to create an app with state of the art features that will help with access to the collection. Jupiter has worked with Edinburgh Napier University over the past 3 years on our digital development, an Ibook and audio guides have been created and this app marks a continuation of that relationship. The app will enable access to past ephemeral works and interventions that will be GPS triggered as well as augmented reality capability when you are onsite. Part of the app is a digitized map which will enable us to share digital information about the collection in a new and exciting way that will, we hope, really engage children and adults. The digitized map will feature 3d modelling of our sculpture and a virtual journey around Jupiter from your classroom or even from the comfort of your own sofa.

Inspired by Jupiter

Midcalder Primary School has been involved with us over a few months on an investigation into environmental art inspired by visits and workshops at jupiter in the autumn by the whole school. Nicky Wilson, Diana McMicking and Pauline Cairns – who has a daughter in the school – visited a fantastic exhibition of the children’s work. We had originally planned to offer 2 free family memberships at Jupiter as prizes but after seeing the tremendous effort and standard of the artwork we gave out  7 free family memberships as individual prizes as well as books for class prizes.

Opportunities at Jupiter

Jupiter’s education programme is growing fast – we are looking to employ a temporary teacher over the summer as well as a permanent classroom assistant for our pre-school group – littlesparks. Please see opportunities section of the website
