JUPiter Artland in MINecraft aNDROID App

Download it for free from the Google Play Store (Android), visit Jupiter Artland and follow the trail of clues to help the magical creatures living here!

In 2017 we launched our free Jupiter Artland in Minecraft App. Developed with pupils from Ratho Primary School and by undergraduate students from Edinburgh Napier University, this app is the newest addition to Jupiter Artland’s digital developments and is a mixed reality and GPS game.

Influenced by Scottish myths and folklore the pupils created and designed all the characters, wrote the storyline of the app and, in response to the Jupiter Artland sculpture collection, decided which artworks the magical creatures lived in and they wrote the clues. They even recorded the voices of the characters they came up with, which you can listen to as you follow the adventure trail they have designed. This app offers you and your family a new way of playing with contemporary art.

Look carefully at the map for clues. You can tap the blue/pink signs to re-load the advice given by characters and help navigate your route. The pink icon refers to a site that you have already found, the blue is unvisited. You must walk around the sculptures to unlock the clues, some places take longer than others to find. Be please patient and listen out or special sound effects.

A special thank you to Edinburgh Napier University’s School of Computing for creating the app, and to the Edinburgh Science Festival for helping to launch it. And of course huge thanks to Ratho Primary School!

Please note, the app is free to download, but you need to visit Jupiter Artland (subject to entry charges) to play the adventure. If you would like to experience Jupiter Artland: In Minecraft from the comfort of your PC at home, please download the MOD here
