Location: Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh

Reports to: Director, Jupiter Artland Foundation

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £35,000–£42,000 (depending on experience)

About Jupiter Artland Foundation

Jupiter Artland is a contemporary sculpture park and art foundation dedicated to engaging the public with art, nature, and creativity. The Jupiter Artland Learning Foundation champions our mission: for every child in Scotland to be inspired by art, to develop their own agency, and to engage with creative activism.

We provide free learning opportunities for schools, colleges, and community groups, using contemporary art and outdoor learning to spark imagination, challenge thinking, and foster lifelong creative engagement.

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced and imaginative Senior Learning Manager to lead Jupiter Artland’s ambitious learning programme. This role is central to delivering free, curriculum-linked learning for schools, colleges, and community groups, through on-site, digital, and community-based initiatives.

The Senior Learning Manager will shape and deliver inspiring, inclusive experiences rooted in contemporary art practice — ensuring learners engage meaningfully with the artworks, ideas, and artists that define Jupiter Artland. You will lead learning delivery in the Make Studio, guide school visits, and direct the creative development of Jupiter+, our national digital learning platform. You will also support our Orbit youth group, enabling young people to explore activism, agency, and co-creation.

A strong understanding of contemporary art is essential — not only as subject matter but as a dynamic framework for learning. This role suits someone who thrives at the intersection of education, creativity, and cultural engagement, with a commitment to widening access to the arts.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Development & Delivery

  • Lead the planning and delivery of creative, curriculum-aligned learning experiences for schools, colleges, and community groups.
  • Facilitate hands-on learning in the Make Studio, encouraging learners to respond to contemporary artworks through experimentation and making.
  • Deliver inspiring workshops and guided visits that help learners explore the themes, materials, and social questions embedded in the Jupiter Artland collection.
  • Translate the principles of contemporary art practice into inclusive and accessible learning opportunities for all ages and abilities.

Jupiter+ Leadership

  • Oversee and develop Jupiter+, Jupiter Artland’s national digital learning platform.
  • Commission and produce high-quality video content, resources, and artist-led activities rooted in contemporary art and the Scottish curriculum.
  • Ensure Jupiter+ evolves as a national resource for accessible, artist-centred creative education.

Youth Engagement & Orbit

  • Lead the Orbit youth group, fostering co-creation, youth-led projects, and creative activism.
  • Empower young people to explore the relevance of contemporary art in relation to their own lives, communities, and the wider world.

Partnerships & Advocacy

  • Develop and sustain partnerships with schools, local authorities, and cultural and community organisations.
  • Act as an advocate for contemporary art in education and for young people’s creative rights.
  • Design and deliver CPD sessions for teachers, promoting confidence in engaging with contemporary art in the classroom.

Team & Project Management

  • Manage freelance educators and support the wider learning team with training, planning, and evaluation.
  • Contribute to project budgeting, funding applications, and reporting to funders and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that safeguarding, accessibility, and inclusion underpin all aspects of the learning programme.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Significant experience delivering creative workshops and school visits in arts or education settings.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence.
  • A robust understanding of contemporary art and its potential as a tool for learning and empowerment.
  • Experience translating artistic concepts and practices into accessible, age-appropriate learning activities.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills with learners, educators, and artists.
  • Passion for youth agency, creative activism, and access to the arts.

Desirable

  • Teaching qualification or relevant postgraduate degree in education or arts education.
  • Experience working directly with artists and/or curating artist-led learning experiences.
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms and media production for education.
  • Understanding of child protection, inclusion, and trauma-informed learning practices.

Salary and Benefits

  • £35,000–£42,000, depending on experience.
